REVISED " Digital Relationships"

REVISED

Breaking up through text message

It is un-acceptable to break up with someone via text message. Texting is a great tool to pass pieces of information fast and efficiently; it’s the way of the 21st century. The only downside is it’s extremely informal. Breaking up with someone is a “BIG” piece of information, and definitely should be done in a formal respectful manner.

REVISED "My Favorite Movie"

REVISED

I think it is way to incredibly hard, as a movie lover, to choose a favorite movie. There are so many different genres and types to narrow it down to just one. So I will write about a long time favorite that has always been an inspirational story and a great movie overall. " Remember The Titans " is a great movie that discusses the hardships of segregation at a small town white dominated high school.

A Brief Screening of 42 REVISED

The number 42 is so much more than a number, and it stands for so much more than a baseball player. It was Jackie Robinson who was the first African American man to break the color barrier in Major League Baseball. At the same time, it was so much more than that. Jackie was a strong-charactered individual who proved himself not with his words or by fighting back, but by his actions alone.

Joy Harjo, Option 3

Joy Harjo in a nutshell derived most of her writing and artistic intelligence from her education. Education has affected Joy in a way that we hope all education affects individuals. She bounced around a few schools but settled down at the Institute of American Indian Arts. She studied a variety of subjects in the arts with Poetry being her strong point. “We began to understand that poetry did not have to be from England or of an English that was always lonesome for its homeland in Europe.” explained Joy.

Crucible Play Response

Samuel Sobieck
03/06/14

As I read and watched “The Crucible” I noticed many times that Abigail played a very influential part throughout the entire play. Abigail is a smart girl and a convincing liar. She was the a servant for the Proctor household until Elizabeth Proctor found out that Abigail and her husband were having an affair and fired Abigail. Throughout the play Abigail manipulated many people including the other children who were dancing in the woods, Reverend Hale and many more. One example that stood out to me was when Abigail accuses Elizabeth Proctor of being with the devil and witchcraft. Before this occurred Abigail had known that Mary Warren, the Proctor’s servant, would give the doll she made in court to Elizabeth. Then having accused her, Reverend Hale visited the Proctor’s wanting to speak with anyone whose name was mentioned in connection with witchcraft. When they found the doll in their household and even though Mary confessed to making it and sticking the needle in it, Elizabeth was still taken to prison that night. Abigail knew that the whole town would believe whatever she said and proceeded to use this for her advantage and accusing Elizabeth Proctor to put her in prison so she could take Elizabeth’s place in the Proctor household. I believe that this example was as effective on stage as it was in the reading because both portrayed Abigail as this vindictive person who would do or say anything to get what she wanted in this case it was John Proctor. Overall I thought it was a great production and glad I had the opportunity to go see it.

Wheres Stevie? -Library Detectives

It was a sunny Wednesday morning when we received urgent news that the UWSP mascot, Stevie Pointer was kidnapped. Chosen as an elite team of Library detectives we knew we had to get to the bottom of this and find Stevie. We searched high and low in the 6 floors of the library to collect 7 clues that led us to our Mascot.

CLUE 1
We began by going to the first floor in search of the encyclopedia of the dog. We were tipped off that we would be able to find our information from the reference center to further our understanding on Stevie. Locating the stacks of books lined against the wall we knew we were close. Upon finding the book we went to page 197 to find the description of the English Pointer. From there we interrogated information out of the Reference Librarian to give us our first letter clue.  V

CLUE 2
Upon finding the “V” we were tipped off about clue number 2. We knew it would be located by a shark, and potentially on the first floor from the description. We rushed to the front of the library. Being Library detectives we knew that there might potentially be a hanging shark by the museum. We rushed to find the shark and close by was our second clue, but still no Stevie. Our second clue told us the next letter and to find a specific bird egg in the Museum of Natural History. Being so close to the entrance of the museum we were off on the hot trail within seconds.   A

CLUE 3
Searching our way through the museum to find the section with all the bird eggs. After examining all the eggs to find the Pacific golden Plover we found our next clue. Our clue read, repeat the phrase “ free the bound periodicals” to the desk worker on the second floor.  Our next task was to find the current pointer newspaper, and with the secret phrase found we were set. We knew it wouldn’t be long till we found Stevie.

CLUE 4

Our next clue in the discovery of Stevie the Pointer, was to look where he would be next. Stevie likes music and loves to dance. We see him dancing to music all the time. So we found out that he like to look in the IMC where the CDs are located. We went there and found the next clue giving us one step further to find Stevie. S

CLUE 5
A witness during the search of Stevie the Pointer told us that he has spotted the kidnapper and could give us a description of who he thinks kidnapped Stevie. The witness told us that he thinks the kidnapper resembles a famous comedian. So we wondered where we could find our next clue but realized that it has to be where the books of the comedians are. We looked over by the books labeled PN 2287 C5 on the 4th floor. Looking all around to find the books about these kidnappers we found the clue to next step in the tracking down Stevie, our beloved mascot. C

CLUE 6
After leaving the fourth floor, we headed to the 5th floor stacks, where we were informed a hostage was being held captive.  An anonymous tip told us to search the area around the “Animal Biochemistry” stacks.  Once we arrived, we found the hostage, and also another letter.  With this, we were one step closer to finding the missing mascot.  The kidnapped orangutan informed us that the kidnapper headed to the 6th floor of the library, so without a second thought, we were on our way.

Clue 7
Once on the 6th floor, the final pieces to the puzzle were found on a SuDoc poster.  Upon finding these letters, we had all the information we needed to find out where Stevie was.  We unscrambled the letters we found at the previous clue sites, and discovered that Stevie was hidden in the archives of the library on the 5th floor.  In a dash, we were there to rescue Stevie.

Although there was no sign of the kidnapper, we found the missing Stevie Pointer.  The schools spirit was restored and there was peace and prosperity throughout the land.  The adventure led us to every corner of the library, with twists and new clues at every turn.  After all was said and done, we all had a better understanding of the library, and all the resources that lye within it.

Disconnected....Physically

“Disconnected” Reaction

I am so extremely glad I had the opportunity to view this documentary. This was an awesome student made project. Right away this video caught my attention because the students that made this went to Carlton College in Northfield Minnesota. That town and college is less than 10 miles from my house; so I thought that was really cool.
