A Brief Screening of 42 REVISED

The number 42 is so much more than a number, and it stands for so much more than a baseball player. It was Jackie Robinson who was the first African American man to break the color barrier in Major League Baseball. At the same time, it was so much more than that. Jackie was a strong-charactered individual who proved himself not with his words or by fighting back, but by his actions alone.
He put hope in thousands of American Americans homes across the country. He was a walking civil rights activist without saying one word that could be twisted or turned against him. In the movie the manager for the Brooklyn Dodges talked to Jackie about his vision for the game, and what he wanted to do with him. The conversation began to get heated and Jackie said, “ you’re telling me you want a weak player that doesn’t fight back?” the manager said, “NO, I need a player who is strong enough not to fight back.” That quote alone spoke volumes to me about what the rest of the movie was about to bring and how hard Jackie would have to work not to fight back. The actors in the movie did a great job bringing the characters and their emotions to life. The language and context of this movie touched me as well, the writers did not hold back at all when it came to racial slurs. I look forward to writing a whole evaluation on the movie 42, going into great depth about the camera shots and the music that really made this movie fantastic. Overall if you are a person who likes motivational movies, then I would highly suggest watching the movie 42, it’s a remarkable piece of history and a great story, two thumbs up.
